    Sawtooths (Sawteeth?) Idaho

Hey all, I'm planning to fulfill a life long dream of backpacking in Idaho. I'm shooting for mid to late August 2015. I'm a flat lander from Michigan with very little backpacking experience above 5000 feet, and my girlfriend will be making her first backpacking trip this spring. I'm seeking out ideas in the Sawtooth area. I'd like to do three or four days, covering less than 10 miles a day, maybe a lot less, depending on terrain. I'd really like to show my girlfriend what I love about backpacking so she will want to do it again. I'd prefer to do a loop, but an out and back would be ok.

    Thanks in advance
    Aaron

    Hey Aaron,

    Sawtooths is the correct.

I have a bunch of trip reports for the Sawtooths in my reports: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...archid=1928595

I also have a few videos on my youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCa4...QrEq6tA/videos

And last summer I wrote an intro guide...the cliff notes.... on backpacking the Sawtooths. I cover everything from which guide book and maps to buy to where to eat, routes to and from, fishing, hiking routes I recommend, weather and insulation level recommendations. http://www.arrowhead-equipment.com/s...ooths_PDF.html

Hope that helps some but let me know if you have any questions at all about the range and the area. The Sawtooths are my backyard.

Thanks a lot. I'll be getting your intro guide for sure. I've looked through the trip reports and read all your Idaho Hang reports. When I try the link for your reports I get this "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms." Not sure what's going on with that.

By the way, I've been very happy with my Toxaway tarp and Potomac UQ. I'll probably be getting an Owyhee soon.

    Thanks again
    Aaron

Just had a trip out there this past September. Did a easy hike as I'm not getting any younger. Started at Pettit Lake TH, up to Alice Lake Camp #1, then over to Toxaway Camp #2, spent next couple of nights at Imogene Lake Camp #3/#4, then down the Farley Lake Camp #5 and Yellow Belly Lake Camp #6 before heading back to TH, nice easy loop with lots of AMAZING scenery. Hiked in the morning and early afternoon with napping and fishing on the schedule once camp was set up... I will be heading back to the Sawtooths some day in the future as they are STUNNING!!!! Pictures say it best....

    Happy Hangin'

thats odd about the link to the reports. What I did was an advance search, user name pgibson with thread started by selected next to it then click on the trip report sub section. That will bring up just mine. There are a number on the Sawtooths and sorry but not all have Sawtooths in the title.

Great at to hear the gear is doing you well.

I don't know if I want to hike Idaho because I have Idaho gear, or if I got Idaho gear because I always wanted to hike Idaho, but it's really all about that picture. What a beautiful place.
