I just joined before a week ago and have been fully immersing myself in all of the great posts on the forum. I camp a lot, at least once a month, more in the summer. I'm also a Troop Scouter so I spend a lot of time outdoors and am always looking for great lightweight tips to pass on to my scouts. Up until now I've been camping on the ground in a 2 man eureka which is fine but its bulky and heavy at 5lbs. So I'm diving right into the hammock camping, there's no shortage of trees around here.
I am waiting for my first test hammock to arrive. It's a grand trunk ultralight, I think 10oz. I have also ordered the materials to do my own marlin spike whoopie sling suspension, adjustable ridge line and some 1.1 ripstop to make snakeskins and double-sided compression sack. I also have a UST base tube tarp to start. I may end up getting to use it in February so I might try converting my modular military sleeping bag into a Peapod. I'm going to wait until later in the year to figure out how to do the bug screen.
