    Hello from Russell, Ontario

I just joined before a week ago and have been fully immersing myself in all of the great posts on the forum. I camp a lot, at least once a month, more in the summer. I'm also a Troop Scouter so I spend a lot of time outdoors and am always looking for great lightweight tips to pass on to my scouts. Up until now I've been camping on the ground in a 2 man eureka which is fine but its bulky and heavy at 5lbs. So I'm diving right into the hammock camping, there's no shortage of trees around here.

I am waiting for my first test hammock to arrive. It's a grand trunk ultralight, I think 10oz. I have also ordered the materials to do my own marlin spike whoopie sling suspension, adjustable ridge line and some 1.1 ripstop to make snakeskins and double-sided compression sack. I also have a UST base tube tarp to start. I may end up getting to use it in February so I might try converting my modular military sleeping bag into a Peapod. I'm going to wait until later in the year to figure out how to do the bug screen.

    Welcome from the PNW!

Check out Fronkey's DIY video on how to do a bug net on the easy. Dutch sells them, if you just want one quick...

Welcome to the forums from Toronto!

Sounds like you're on the right track. If you're interested in meeting some fellow hangers (mainly Ont and a few Que), we have EGL hangs fairly often. Next one's near Hamilton on the 10th of Jan. Most of us are DIY'ers in one form or another and it's always nice to see the different approaches we all have.

    Cheers

Welcome from London, ON. There's also some Ottawa area hanger looking to get together in March I believe.

    Thanks All,

Chard, thanks for the invite, the 10th may be cutting it close as I'm just getting my hammock today
Bubba & LarryBourgeois, thanks for the heads up, I replied to the Ottawa thread.

Boomer, thanks for the info.. I was actually looking at Fronkey's setup and my only concern was that the mossy's could make their way up through the bottom unless it cinched up tight to the hammock. I also saw a similar version of a pull over sock that cinches down at the head of the hammock, more effort to get in/out though. And the half bug net which seems like a great idea for weight/space saving but I worry about the bugs finding their way in even more through potential gaps at the torso.

Just out of curiosity is there a thread that works as an appendix of sorts? For all of the acronyms flying around? Some are obvious or easy to figure out, UQ, VB, TQ, etc.. but I've seen ccf and am scratching my head trying to figure out what it is.

Correction on my hammock, it's actually lighter at 204 g ( 7.3 oz) .. and once I remove the s-hooks and add my amsteel loops it'll be even lighter.
