100 Mile Wilderness advice

Hi all,

I'm planning a trip to the 100 mile wilderness this summer, dates still to be determined, but most likely in July/August. My setup that I want to use is a WBBB 1.1SL, HG Cuben w/ doors, 20 degree yeti, and a 40 degree HG burrow. Looking for advice from anyone that has done this about gear, and I want to make sure that I'm not going to run into a problem with finding a place to hang. I'm considering extending to to the top of Katadin as a possibility if we make good time.

The one time I did the 100 mile, the bugs were insane. The mud was also an issue. That was in late june and the very start of july. If I was doing this hike again, I would aim later instead of earlier.

There'll be a ton of trees, no issues hanging in that part of Maine.

If you had a choice, when would you shoot for? August?

August is generally a pleasant time of year to be in Maine. The only problem with hiking in August is that at some point toward the end of August hiking trails in the northeast (including the 100 mile wilderness) fill up with large groups of college kids out on some sort of freshman orienteering outing. Generally these groups are well led and well equipped, but not always. It's been a few years since I've run into one of these groups, but that's probably because I gave up on hiking in the last half of August. Early September should be just as nice weather-wise, and probably less crowded.
