Mine don't bother the hammock if I'm not in it. When I am, they step into the hammock from a piece of furniture and walk on me instead of the hammock body. Sometimes I have to have my husband pick cats off me so I can get up. ;-)

Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!
Well, she doesn't seem interested in being in the hammock at all. She just walks under it, yelling at me to get out and sleep on my futon in the living room, so she can sleep with me.
I even tried lifting her in, but she freaks, gets her balance, and jumps out.
I'll keep trying, but I find it ironic that I've gone from worrying about her claws to trying to get her to join me, and being upset she isn't. Ha ha!
Is she a siamese cat? They tend to have opinions on a variety of things.

Haha! No, she's a tabby, callico mix.
*sigh* and now at 4:00am this morning she decided to come in purring and was ready to try... repeatedly. And each time she'd get on, she purred louder and looked all proud of herself, then as soon as I moved or made a noise she jumped down, and tried again.
I have to say, it's quite the experience to have someone purring right beneath your head, while you lay in a hammock! Very... penetrating. Ha ha!
All I can say is, I hope she gets this figured out soon, because unlike her, I have to go to work.
She is currently in the hammock. Crazy girl! And she looks very, very content. Ha ha!
Thank goodness for the suggestion of the blanket!
Thanks everyone!
If you're worried about claws, canvas hammocks can work really well. If you're just hanging it around the house and have a different setup for camping, the heavier material shouldn't be an issue.
That is actually a good idea! Thanks for the suggestion. Alas, she is just about ready to go, and in the end, did not enjoy the "top portion" of my hammock, so my Mayan and all it's lovingly woven threads is safe. She found her way onto my makeshift underquilt, in between the hammock and the quilt. She looks very cozy in there, but only when I'm not in my hammock, obviously.
Penetrating? Penetrating is when you wake up in the middle of the night with your Malemute crouched under your hammock and growling. The penetrating part is when you realize that she is under you and not out at the end of her lead threatening mayhem on whatever is out there, and you remember that you are in BEAR country.
