Hanging a gear hammock "how to"?

I received a Jerry Chair/Gear hammock from my Secret Santa recently. I have always wanted this exact thing, so I am super excited! It includes grograin loops at each corner to suspend as a gear hammock.

But now the question: How do you hang it?

I have a 11 ft DIY gathered end and a WBBB that I use with my Superfly Tarp. I also use a 20 degree Hammock Gear Underquilt as well as an UQP when needed. I most often set up my hammock at "seat level" so I can sit in my hammock. I'm thinking that if it goes under my quilt, it will nearly be on the ground (defeating the purpose in the rain).

I realize the gear hammock probably should hang from your hammock suspension. mini biners and mason line? Under, beside, above?

I know I'll have to find what works for me, but looking for suggestions. No need to reinvent the wheel....

    Thanks!

I use my UQP has a gear hammock. It allows me to get all my down out as soon as I get to camp. Which frees up the hammock to use as a chair.
Would something like this work with your gear hammock?

You might even be able to attach it to your tarp suspension and have it above your hammock.

Anyone else have any good photos on setup, options or plans on build. I recently watch the Molly Mac gear box video, and that design looks really functional. Only issue is how does that design ensure it is sealed and now water will get in it without a tarp over it.

    Thoughts?

I tried to make something like the MollyMack but the seamstress didn't follow my directions. Still, what I have works. To answer the first quesition - I don't try to hang it with my hammock; it has a rain flap so I string it between two other (closer together) trees. I bought 2 yards of waterproof (coated) nylon, giving me a piece that was about 6 ft by 5 ft. So that made the hammock 5 ft long. I wanted the seamstress to cut the 5ft width down and inch or two on each side for about 4ft along the 6ft edge. Or rather cut in about and inch or so at the 4 ft mark and fold that inch over making a channel.

So I then would have 5 ft wide for 2 ft, then for 4 ft, the rest of the width (the hammock "length), would be more like 56 inches. putting a suspension in the channel gives me about a 5 ft long hammock and with a 2ft top flap. I asked her to triple stitch it so it could also be used and a chair (which she didn't do). She did make the partial channel and I was able to make a gather and put a double wrap larks head on it - so the material is strong enough to use as a chair. And we puts three nylon loops on the flap so I can attach a bungee and wrap it around the hammock, pulling the flap secure in wind and rain. I've used it twice but haven't had to test it weatherproofness. As items come out if my dry bag, they go into the hammock - at waist level. So if I need them again, I don't have to retrieve them from bags on the ground.

I've had a couple of gear hammocks and could never find a way of hanging in on, under, over or generally near my hammock without it irritating me (to my regret now as a possum at my $500 bag). I normally use one similar to the molly Mac style (DIY) that just has 2mm extra long UCR suspension, handy bit of kit and in bright orange so it's useful for hunting/following on misty days too (I don't like it as a chair).

I began hanging it from one of the hammock´s suspension (usually feet end) and a side tie-out (the one close my head) but eventually just got a pair of independent lines for the gear hammock.
Now I usually hang it under the hammock, sometimes i attach to two trees (the same two as the hammock´s) or i attach to one tree (foot end) and the hammock´s supension (head end). Here are a couple of old pics.

I don't think having it nearly on the ground defeats the purpose in the rain. Having it ON the ground would. But unless it's raining enough that the water is running several inches deep below you, you'll be fine.

I suspend mine from the same two trees as my hammock, which would naturally cause the gear hammock to be under my hammock. But I use pullouts on one side to pull it to the side of my hammock, which also raises it further off the ground.

It's one of those things that is difficult to explain typing. You'll have to look at one and you'll go 'oh, I get it' quickly. I have seen plans floating aroung here somewhere, search the diy section.

There are plans but I ended up remaking mine a couple times to get some features. I believe the MMac has the flap sewn down about 8" at either end. 42" width with 18" of flap or thereabouts.
