New River UQ 3 season or 4 season?

Hey guys a relatively new hanger here and I am thinking about taking the UQ plunge. I have settled on the New River KAQ. I could swing a 4 season but trying to figure out if I could manage with a 3 season in the North Texas area. I plan on also getting a superfly as well so I am leaning towards a 3 season. Anyone have the 3 season and wishing they would have gotten a 4 season? Or vice versa? Thanks!

I've been comfortable in the mid 20's with the 3 season New River. With the addition of extra cloths it could go lower. Great UQ for the money.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!

I had the 3 season down to about 25 degrees. What are you using as top quilt, bag, etc? What temps do you expect?

I was thinking about using my 0 degree mummy bag as a top quilt. I wouldn't expect to go lower than 15 degrees at most.

The mummy bag should be good. The 3 season will be ok using the 0 degree mummy and a Superfly to stop wind. You could always add other insulation or clothing as needed.

My guess is you will not always be in 15 degrees so the 3 season is more versatile, less weight, less bulk, less money. I use my 3 season year round. I will be testing it below 25 this month. May go down to single digits. I am bringing a second quilt or pad just in case.

Awesome thanks for the replies! Definitely looking like I will get the 3 season. If you wouldn't keeping me posted on how the below 25 goes I would love to hear how it goes!

Just as a comparison... It was about 12 deg here in GA last night, so I threw up the hammock, shook out the quilts (HG 20 deg Burrow and 20 deg Incubator, overstuffed 2oz) and pitched the Superfly (to block the wind). I had on Patagonia Capilene 3 top and bottoms, wool socks and a thin balaclava. Stayed. Warm. All. Night!

Just did my first hang with a New River 4 season rated for 10* and ended up taking it 15* below that rating in relative comfort. Thus if the 3 s is rated as conservatively as the 4 s, it should be fine for North Texas weather.
