    Inexpensive UQ for Boy Scout?

Hi, all. I got my Boy Scout an ENO Doublenest hammock for Christmas and turns out he loves it and wants to take it on Scout campouts asap. Does anyone have suggestions for an inexpensive UQ that, hopefully, will also hold up okay? Weight is not very important because most of their outings are more like car camping at this point. Used would be ok too.

I have all HG quilts which I love, but don't want to spend that on him at this point, and don't want him to ruin them.

    Thanks!

Kick-*** quilt's from Arrowhead Equipment and Enlightened Equipment's synthetic quilt's are probably the cheapest, and most durable - being synthetic.

If you're crafty you can also try to convert a cheap synthetic sleeping bag. There's lot's of threads on here about that.

If you have time and patience then you might score a good used quilt on the For Sale Forum. I got a used AHE Jarbidge UQ last week for $85. New AHE quilts are a very nice choice for less money as well. There are always the Poncho Liner UQ that folks talk about quite a bit. They seem simple to modify into an UQ for not much $$. If you're into DIY, there was a recent thread about turning an Eddie Bauer synthetic or down throw into an UQ. Top quilt is easy, just get a decent down sleeping bag. Good luck. Nice that your boy loves the hammock.

Arrowhead Equipment is your best bet - the Jarbidge is perfect for most Scouts. My scouts both have one.

That is the ticket right there.
When you have that answered then you will be better at picking what you need for him.
My family is all scouts and with son and I getting into hammocks for our backpacking trips we first used ccf pads and fleece sleeping bag under us and then snuggled into out heavy mummy bags.
But Santa got us nice HG 0 incubator and we just did an overnight test last Friday at 25 degrees and freezingrain with no problems.
I know not all scouts are the same with their gear and taking care of it, so only you will know if he can handle the nicer end of the spectrum with his gear.
Hope you find one that will work for him and maybe other scouts will follow too.

If the lowest temp is above 50F, a poncho liner could be a cheap and easy UQ. I've used one in the past without any alterations, just gathered the ends and hung it from my hammock suspension with some shock cord. It worked great and I had one on hand. If he can handle some of the higher end UQs, I am a huge fan of Hammock Gear quilts. Their quality is great and usually are good below the rated temps. Just my opinion.
