Another vote for AHE Jarbidge here. My 7yr old son uses one, and sometimes I borrow it. Great quilt for the price. Picked it up for $75 last year.

Like thrash metal? Check out my nephew's band, Deathwatch. He's an amazing drummer... https://soundcloud.com/user-660860695
Thanks, all! On the temp, I'm not sure which way to go. Probably a 40 and see how he likes it in the warmer months before spending more for a 0. I'll check out the Jarbridge.
The Jarbidge is where I was going with my question. It is a heck of a UQ at a heck of a price.
My vote is for a poncho liner. Double it and burn slits with a hot knife where needed to slide shock cord into the existing hem(s). No sewing required. You can slide a pad in between the doubled layers if you need more insulation.

The cheapest would be to convert a used sleeping bag. You could probably pick up something REAL cheap at goodwill.
I thoroughly enjoy a self inflating pad in the hammock. It adds a little extra comfort and they are cheaper and way more durable. Plus heaven forbid he has to go to ground he won't be S.O.L.
If the scouts made their own UQ, couldnt they get a sewing patch? Would be a good skill regardless. We all might be sewing for the Indians or Chinese soon?
