    U.S. Army Poncho liner

    Hey gang...

Question about the good O'l Army poncho liner. I have the JRB Nest UQ and my poncho liner. Would you recommend a sleeping bag for use with that setup?

If so; what kind? I haven't done any winter hanging and if I do it would not be colder than 30 deg.

    Thanks

I am NUTS about my Pancho liner!! Greatest thing since sliced bread if you ask me! Now note, i am a hot sleeper, this weekend, out in my BB, got down to 60, so pretty warm, but slept in just shorts, thermarest pro pad, and my pancho liner and was great! Recently in Minnesota, down to 40 degrees, used a Snugfit UQ and pancho liner, and life was good! And even then was only in a short sleeve t and long pants, no socks. Point being with some good layers, wool socks, a good UQ and pancho line can get you on down there in temps. But again, when i was tenting i was only using a thermarest and the liner. Did I mention I am a hot sleeper?!

I love my poncho liner too.... But at 21.5 oz it is heavier than all summer and most three season down quilts out there... And the quilts are good to 20-25 * (40* for summer models) vs 50-55* for the PL....

I'd want a 20F sleping bag or a TQ for those temps even though I'm a warm sleeper. I did take my JRB Shenandoah down to 50F and was fine with a poncho liner.

At a around $160 cost savings, more area of coverage for wrap, and knowing that I can get down to 40* with the PL, I will take on the 5.5 extra ozs all day long.... Plus, as Shug has been known to say about the BB, the PL in digital camo "just looks cool man"!!

Seems like everyone uses the PL as a top quilt, but how low can you go with a PL as an underquilt? All I have now is a thermarest Ridgerest, and a 25*/40* reversible bag that I've been using as my TQ. I'm planning on getting a KAQ once I have some green things in the bank, but for now I'm just looking for something to replace the pad. Oh, and I like be cool when I sleep.

My homemade synthetic top quilt cost $100, gets me down to 20*, and weighs as much as my poncho liner. Just another option that is out there.

How well does it pack down? Same size as PL, smaller? Dimensions? My and standard PL is 62" x 82"

I've been comfy at 10 degF using a Wiggy's poncho liner and a Frog Sac (summer weight bag), fully clothed.

Minimal amount of insulation in cold weather

You must have a lot of natural insulation to stay soooo warm with so little.
