Oh man, I'm soo bummed!

RockRat, I apologize if I didn't come across friendly. I was so preoccupied with that sick Scout.

We camped right on the left fork. We could have shown you all 3 great hammock setups!

Rats! I'm trying to convince my son hanging is THE WAY (even though I'm still ground dwelling).

Kicking myself! I should have posted the trip before hand and we could have spent more time chatting.

Ah, same here, I returned from a week w/family of beach car camping at Assateague State Park; only had one day for a turn around prior to the Sods.

Oh well there's always the Nov. MAHHA! Any scouts coming to that?

I'm trying to persuade my son. If I knew more youngin's were going to be there..

We had great weather didn't we. Your scouts probably don't know how lucky they are to have leaders who take them to the Sods!

Thank you! I taught him compass navigation because the older Scouts don't have the skills (I took over a dysfunctional troop, I'll spare gory details) and I was pleasantly surprised because it turns out he was actually listening! I was so stoked when he lead us out on the bypass, shaving off some time.

Mine just got his Eagle. I love scouting!

Congrats on yours Eagle. Scouting never ceases to amaze me. I'm still fairly new, I was a Cub Scout through Webelos Scout but never crossed over to Boy Scouts (wasn't cool? I don't recall). My son entered as a Webelos Scout and I became Scoutmaster almost one year ago on 9/9/2008. Boy Scouts isn't a perfect program but it excels at teaching leadership and group dynamics.

Yep, My son is starting as a engineering freshman at West Virginia University this year and he's in the honors college. I consider scouting contributing in a large way to those accomplishments. Philmont is something he will always remember.

Yes! It was RockRat's trip and when he emailed, I was thrilled to go. RockRat and I are one town apart but only met at the MAHHA hang, which is where you and I met. I can't say enough good things about going to a hammock hang! People need to flock to these events.

Well, make sure you post when you go! That way we can look for each other and have a nice little chat. Kills me that we didn't get to spend any real time chatting hammocks with Miksmi and his scouts!

What a small world. I've got to know was that rock wall at the camp site on the right fork your scout's doing? We figured some scouts had a bit too much energy and needed something to do.

Rock wall? Didn't see it. We didn't explore much; the boys were wiped out after hiking 8 miles. Our patrol was smaller (4) than the ideal size (6-8) so making dinner and other tasks were hectic. They were too tired to even goof around in Red Creek. My son planned the route but he likes to crank out the miles (sometimes too much for me!).

He learned that next time, fewer miles means more time for exploring. But that's what Scouting is about.

Thanks for the map consultation. Apologies for not talking more (something I usually do to excess) but I had to keep the sick Scout moving.

What a great weekend. You can't ask for much more than two day's in the sods with good company and HappyCamper and SkyDog where some of the best. Other than the bobcat we also got to see a hawk snatch a guarder snake. You know how they say you can't know a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes. I think this weekend I got to know SkyDog a bit better. Thanks for the bail out man.

Hey Rock_Rat...I've hiked with Happy Camper, JD and Skydog. You couldn't have asked for a better group of people to hike and hang with!!! They are the best!!!
