    Dumb tarp question

So this is probably a dumb question, but do tarps require a ridge line? What happens if you just tie the ridgeline tie outs to the tree separately, is that too much tension on the corners ? Or does that not provide adequate structure? Thanks!

Folks have been doing it that way for a long time! I just recently switched last week and I wish I had done it that way from the start.

Depends on the tarp, weather conditions. Most of the quality tarp are fine, lots of stuff on here about ridgelins. Mostly preference. I'd do it for snow or heavy heavy rain. Just my 2 cents...

OK great. I was thinking of just doing some speed hooks from dutch similar to what I'll do with my hammock. Or just go the knot and no hardware route.
    Thanks guys

Hey I was just wondering if anyone could answer this question, My ridge line is zing it my tarp is sil nylon, is it ok to just throw the tarp over the ridge line? or is it better to use a couple prussik knots and have the tarp under the ridge line so it doesn't really contact the ride line at all? My concern is that by placing the tarp over the ridge line and having it contacting the ridge line it may cause wear or damage to the tarp in really windy conditions. Thanks in advance for helping out a new guy. Sorry if

You definitely don't need a full ridgeline. If you are checking out dutch's stuff, he makes some specifically designed for separate tarp lines. Tarp flyz or stingerz come to mind. I have the Tarp flyz pre-installed on 12 ft zing it lines coming off my tarp. They work great.

No need at all. I recently experimented with separate lines.

This video may show you a few ideas.

I offer these for your perusal......
My preference is two lines off of the ridgeline d-rings.
