As far as making gear, Shef (who commented above) is a skilled hand and if memory serves has made his own synthetic quilts. He'd be a good go-to for any help with that. Also, club Treasurer Junebugdawn has made more than a few hammocks and down TQ's and UQ's along with a few other things. Barring unforeseen circumstances, both will be down for the hang...and of course I'm always around and more often than not I'm available after around 7:30 most nights.

    Yep exactly.

Thinking about ordering an UQ kit from thru-hiker. Is that a good source? Just seemed like a good price.

Hopefully I'll be able to come to the hang. If not overnight, at least for some time on Saturday.

Speaking of TQ, anyone interested in making me one? I work in Irmo and would be happy to pay for a local product.

I've never dealt with them directly, but it seems pretty solid to me. In the alternative, you might want to hit up the guys at http://www.riptstopbytheroll.com and see what they can do for you. They don't sell a kit, but the guy that runs it knows his business and should be able to help you. He's good with e-mail, so I'd drop him a line.

In the alternative, there's a lot to be said about converting an old, used sleeping bag (synthetic or otherwise) for use as either an underquilt or a top quilt. I'm TERRIBLE at DIY but one of my first underquilts was made from a $2 sleeping bag from Goodwill.

Glad to have you regardless. We'll be at Sesquicentennial State Park, PRIMITIVE sites 3-4. Tell them at the gate that you're with us and they should slide you right in with no gate fee.

We ancient Irmese don't take kindly to Chapinites invading our space...but I suppose exceptions can be made.

I don't know of anybody local that makes TQs, but there's a solid selection of down bags at Get Your Gear On by the zoo for pretty dang cheap that would serve very well as a TQ. There MIGHT be somebody I know locally who has the skills to make a quilt, just don't know if she has the time. I'd be glad to ask her for you, though. Did you want down or synthetic?

Welcome Scott, from down near Charleston SC.
I like to go solo - off trail - immerse myself in the area - explore - eat really well - and make it back home.
