Not ultralight, but certainly the way to go for deep cold or an extended trip when you're hauling everything in on a pulk/toboggan anyways. But then again I guess the weight's in the stove given that the Smokehouse seems to be about the same bulk and weight of a standard tent. Excellent design! If ever you're in our neck of the woods, drop us a line.
Joe's was custom made, I normally don't make it that large. They are normally 11' with a 7' wall. or the SH outfitter II has the 2 walls like a tent. Also if you want to go lighter, 1.35 sil is 3lbs for SH outfitter I, but its not fire retardant.

I had a great time. This was my first time trying winter camping, and thanks to highboy for lending me an underquilt I slept comfortably warm all night. I also have to thank him for lending me a set of tree straps, when I was setting up my hammock I realized I forgot mine. It was great getting out there and meeting everyone. I'm looking forward to the next one.

I second the sentiment on the hot tent. Last year I went out at -20C. There were 2 of us in hammocks and 2 in a hot tent. But instead of hanging around the firepit, we all squeezed our chairs into the hot tent and traded stories near the warm glow of the stove. We would go outside from time to time to look at the stars or just cool off a bit. There's nothing better. Adding a hammock to the mix takes it to the next level and the smokehouse outfitter is a great design. Smokehouse was kind enough to point me to some pictures of his Outfitter model (asym - walled on one side - hammock on the other).

Yep, lots of fun. The more people that see the SH2 the more sales coming your way. I know your getting one out of me. I'm just combing through all the tech info. I think I'm going 70D custom 12x8 and Kni-Co Alaska Jr stove. I might just live in the woods once I get that stuff.
Now I also need to research a good splitting ax. Quiet had a real nice one. Don't remember what kind though.

    The Smokehouse looks great.

Most physical hike: Grandfather Mountain, NC. Aug 13.

I don't need to make my pack lighter. I need to make my (_*_) lighter.

I couldn't resist the allure of the Smokehouse! Custom Smokehouse is on order!
Now if I can't make next months rent I can just live outside.

You can't go wrong with a Smokehouse in any configuration. Smokehouse is great to deal with and he can tell you what would suit your needs. I went with the extra length for a bridge hammock and larger stove.

I have the Gransfors Bruks small splitting axe from here:

You can probably find a dealer in the US though.

Nice! That is the same one I ordered the other day. Now if I show up to the next hang in a big black Nissan I'd be worried!?!
