I think these might be lighter than titanium. They are definitely cheaper.

Knots can severly degrade modern line. The radiused edges of purpose made hardware can help maintain the integrity of the line. Many knots will lock in modern line making it difficult to impossible to release a knot after the line has been loaded. Lots of people don't know very many knots or how to use them correctly.
That said, I like knots, I like splices even better but the performance and convienience of hardware is hard to ignore.

It's cheaper, lighter, less likely to damage the tarp, best of all you just have to pull tight and don't need to do any extra wraps to lock it off.

Also, I already had some of the little plastic thingies in a repair kit that came with a tent.

    Genius. Thanks for this.
Glad to be of service! I haven't gotten a chance to use this under high-stress conditions yet. Have you been in high wind with it?

There already is a titanium (or aluminum) version, at least something very similar - tarp worms. Also - as for "modern line" and knots - although not as much as a knot - bending and looping around pieces of aluminum/plastic/titanium still can damage the line.

If the wind was high I'd just put a slippery half hitch on it.

I might be wrong but I think this is quite different from a tarp hook.

Functionally, it's pretty similar. The idea came from watching Dutch's videos (I'm not in a place where I can order any gear at the moment, so I have to wait until my situation stabilizes a bit). With the Dutch gear, you lock the piece in place exactly the same way, then instead of pulling on the cord, as is done in this system, the cord pulls on a titanium hook. That method is probably much better for the durability of the line. The only difference is locking the line in place. With Dutch gear, you need to additionally wrap the line around a lock. In this system, the lock is through compression of the line.
