The thermarest zlite would be great cause you can also go to ground if need be. It seems to be a favorite on the appalachian trail.
This is a little late, but R is the inverse of thermal conductivity. On Foam Factory's website the product data sheet lists the thermal conductivity of their 2lb. polyethlene foam to be 0.25 so to get R you divide the thickness of your pad in inches by 0.25. The R values for the thicknesses are:
1/4" = 1
1/2" = 2
3/8" = 1.5.
If you layer pads, you sum the R values, thus a 1/4" + 3/8" pad = 2.5. I plan to use these pads layered over a self inflating open cell foam pad. This way my shoulder's are covered and my torso gets extra insulation.
