What tools are required? I'm planning on doing this late tomorrow night, leaving for a trip in the am. As a backup, could I simply tie a bowline onto a key chain ring to connect to the tarp? Suggestions are appreciated!

There are also lots of tutorials on youtube. The tools needed are a knife or scissors to cut strands for the taper, and something to pull the line with, which can be a specialized tool, such as a fid or a loop turner, or just a thin piece of wire doubled over.

FYI for zing it and lash it I taper 3 strands about 7/8ths inch. I use a #16 yarn needle.

I do the opposite. Glowire for the continuous RL (I use prussiks, and the really thin cord causes problems with them), and the Zing-it spliced to MSR groundhog stakes and the Flyz on the tarp.

My solution to Scouts running across the guylines is that you should be farther away from the patrols. In general, in my troop we ask the Scouts to stay out of the adult camping areas. There's no reason for them to be there, so there's no reason why they should be tripping over the guylines.

If you want to use zingit/lashit and have reflectivity, you can use bike wheel spoke reflectors, cut in half.

Zing it all around. I keep my tarp in the skin until I ready to hop in for the night and then pack everything up the next morning following an incident where a cub scout or one of their family members put a ragged 3" whole in my cuben tarp one afternoon.

I like the zing it because I can do all kinds of splicing with it.

===> I like Stingerz with Zing-it for my Superfly Tarp, and recently switched to Glowire for my tie-outs. Best solution for me. If you are a Gram Weenie there is a definite weight increase to the Glowire, but it is working great for the tie-outs.

How well does ZPacks 1.5 mm or 1.8 mm Z-Line work? It's a Spectra core with a braided Dacron sheath, if that matters.

The Zline is my favorite for guylines and tieouts. Lashit for ridgelines.
Need reflective? Tie a small loop of gloline onto your guylines or stakes or tarp loops.

I'm sure the 1.5 or 1.8 would work great. I use the yellow 1.25 Z-line in my tie outs and it works just fine.

I use Lawson Glowire on my tie-outs too, but really, does everyone really trip that much over tie-outs that don't glow? Are you all carrying more libations into the back country than I do?
