Darrel, that's right. It's also true that there isn't much load on these hitches---the Klemheist is a climbing hitch after all. In this application a little friction goes a long way... <grin> Truth is I think you could tie a tautline here and it would work fine, provided that the two ropes involved have a little "grab" to them.

Nope, because the tarp will just be resting across the top of the ridgeline with a little ension to pull it taut. I don't see how it'd be a problem.

So how about 7/64 amsteel on the ridgeline and speer no tangle on the prussics?

Excellent choice! Because the diameter of the Speer No-Tangle is smaller than that of the Amsteel, it will hold better. Keep us posted on how this works for you, along with pictures. Remember, "no pictures and it didn't happen".

    Really? Amsteel seems so slick...

I've been considering amsteel w/3 passes through a mini 'biner for tarp attachment, but if small stuff will grab Amsteel, I may rethink that.

Just as a quick experiment, I've got some 1/8" Amsteel and some Speer No-Tangle here with me. I've got a prusik around the Amsteel with the Speer line and it's holding just fine. No problems at all.

A prusik with 3+ loops helps, as TeeDee suggested. For a given footprint on the main rope a Klemheist grabs even better, but is a little fussier to loosen up and move in the direction it is design to NOT move in...you need to "lift the loop" and take the tension off.

Depends on your settings. All the cool kids set their profile to display as many posts per page as possible.
