Another example of how great your brand is! I am going to continue to use my speed hooks, under caution, as you continue to work on this making sure I check for wear. Now get back to work!

That's too bad, Dutch, but I commend you for doing this.

I have a pair of whoopie hooks I can trade for some speed hooks if anybody is interested in swapping. I think the speed hooks were $8 a pair, so 2 pair would be an even trade.

I suspected this might happen. Just with my limited use it seemed like a lot of pressure on the rope.

Thanks for the heads up Dutch heck I only paid 5 bucks for mine so worth being on the cutting edge of hammock design. Hope you find a safe substitute. I had already gone back to Whoopie Hooks on a UCR's due to fraying continuous loops, even after cleaning them up. So no big deal. Keep up the great work.
I have complete faith in you Dutch! When pushing the envelope and going where no hanger has gone before, there are going to be some surprises in uncharted territory. I'm. Sure you'll get it all figured out. I for one, like hanging on the edge and your ingenuity has always facilitated that!

"Life is a Project!"
Just to clarify the failure point. If used with say 2' between hugger & hook, then used with 3' between hugger & hook it failed at the 2' mark where the amsteel was in the adjustment eye of the speed hook. Is this right, or is it the half turn after the eye that is causing the failure? I have to think it is the latter because we would see the same compression/adjustment on the whoopie hooks if used in the adjustable loop. If in the fixed eye we would see issues of continuous compression and chaffing with the whoopie hooks.
Come out to Oregon, I see a lot of what I think of as Super Size People. I know and see people on a regular basis who are around 400 pounds, larger people are around. Plus most people are lousy guessers on how much someone weighs.
The stress on the line is not just the weight of the human, the angle of the hammock and all the bits and pieces is where the weight multiplies.
Mine failed where it was worn from previous use. The loop around the speed hook puts plenty stress on a very small length of line and this started fraying the amsteel. This was on the fifth use. I did notice I had only three worn spots from previous uses, so maybe I hit the same spot twice on two different hangs and that is where it failed. I was expecting something to happen so I sat very slow and it gave.
