I am suspending selling the speed hooks

I love this product because it improves the minimum hanging distance but this type of suspension puts a great amount of compression on a very small area. A whoopee sling uses 10 inches to compress the line but the speed hook does it with just 1/4 inch of compression. They test to 1000 pounds originally but after subsequent hangs I tested it again and it didn't meet the minimum of 1000 pounds that I require. I know this suspension is very popular and many people will be disappointed but until I make it foolproof and a suspension that lasts for years then I am going to suggest a whoopee hook suspension. I have tried several designs and methods and I still can't get the product to meet our standards for breaking strength after repeated use. I have a new design I am working on but I don't want to move ahead until I get more testing done with it over the long haul.

Let me apologize for any inconvenience this has caused anyone. Anyone can contact me at [email protected] if they feel slighted in any way.

I appreciate your conservative approach to this. I understand your concerns and would like to see these returned after you get the issues you're concerned with all worked out. Thanks!

Where did the system fail in your testing after repeated use? Was it a result of fraying in the continuous loop or amsteel leader, or did the hook itself break (doubtful)?

Thanks for the update Dutch, I'll be checking back to see if/when you get the update design. They have been on my list of purchases for my first hammock setup, so I'm curious to see this progress.

So for those that have them. Should we discontinue use? Or hang at your own risk?

Thanks Dutch. Glad you made the decision to pull the product until it was foolproof. I will be waiting for the next great thing to come out.

Between the hook and the hugger. Not at the hook but where is was used before. I took a pair that I had used with body weight from several hangs and then tested it. Both broke between 850 and 900 pounds. It didn't break where the hook was at testing but there it had been previously. The compression really degrades the rope.

I will gladly test whatever new designs you are working on. I'm only 170lbs, but I do sleep in my hammock every night so I could provide good data on repeated use over time.

Dutch, I appreciate your standards. I used my Speed Hooks for the first time, besides testing and minor lounging, at the FHV. I loved them. And I can already see where they are going to create wear, or as you say compression, issues. I will keep a close eye on them with continued use. Hopefully in the future you can find a solution to what seems to be a very popular system. And I will purchase it.
    Thank you again.

I am neither an engineer or very bright for that matter but it sounds like what you need is bigger diameter rope. They use amsteel for winches on snow plows is what I read somewhere so the product has to be fairly tuff. Also,I have never seen anyone over 400 pounds and only one of those for that matter.I bet the average hanger is less than 300 pounds.
