Hate to miss you at the hang.
Yea, that was my first thought. Would save time & money.

Snowing now at Mt Rogers and friday sat forecast is freezing rain and lots of snow. Some forecasts are calling for lots of rain inthe valley but significant snow especially at your hang out. I'll be on Pine Mt and may head your way sat morning.

Slowhike, With all the rain we've had lately, it's very easy for the soil in your drainfield to become saturated and unable to absorb any additional water from the septic tank. The only option for that water is to either come up to the surface in the drainfield or back up into the house. I believe the soils in your area are pretty heavy (clay) and therefore don't have as good drainage as a sandier soil. You might try going to the end of one of the runs of your drain field and digging down to the pipe. If water comes gushing out, the problem is probably not with your tank or the line going to it. Also, check to see if you have ANY leaks in your house. Put some food coloring into your toilet tanks and see if it ends up in the bowl with out flushing. Even a SMALL leak can render a septic system overloaded. I'm not any sort of an expert on these things, but, when I was a teen-ager (I think the modern term is "back in the day") I had a summer job at Edisto Beach working for a man in the general home repair busness. My most frequent assignment was to go and relieve the pressure in a septic tank at a rental house that had maybe two bathrooms and 20 people staying. Lotsa flushing. Anyway, lessons learned young last a lifetime. Good luck.

Gosh, this almost sounds off-topic...but what topic is more important than getting Slowhike to the hang?

Doug, thanks for the words of wisdom, but I've been checking the sludge level in the tank (I have a cap I can lift off). Even after the heavy rain we had it was still below the drain pipe coming from the house.
I'm pretty sure now that I have a partial collapse in the old drain pipe

And thanks for wishing I could be at Mt Rogers. If I miss it (& it looks pretty sure now), it'll be the first one I'll miss
I too will something make and joy in it's making

We are here... we plan to be there... mt rogers, that is...

Slepping prizes is a no brainer... Two clipped micro biners on the handles of my parachute bag to my pack load lifters and I have a huge Aarn (sp/) style pack...

Slowhike, I'm sorry to here that you'll miss the hang, alway enjoy talking gear with you...the others just figure there odds keep going up for winning ... Especially since NCP already can't make it.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner about the weather report. The weather report I got was from the police scanner which is a report from the national weather service based in Roanoke VA. I'll see what else I can find out as the week progresses a little. We been getting flurries tonight and had a blanket of snow last night when they weren't even calling for any precipitation.
