Thanks for all the great comments. You all have convinced me to work towards getting winter gear, it might take a while but now I know what I'm working towards. Thanks everyone. By the by, I don't think I will get to the crazy of -40. Zero will be good enough for me.
Nope, I'm out. Three season for sure. I was considering this again until this morning when I woke up to this in Chicago.
By the time I got to this I decided you guys are all bat-guano crazy. Who'd want to camp in this??
Looking forward to the MAHHA! That will be the start of my seasons. Probably done by Thanksgiving.
Here is a record of my planned kayak/hammock camping trip in the Seattle area one April.

-40! Shug & strungout, I cannot imagine how that felt, but it sure looked beautiful out there from the warmth of my couch! And, I want to have strungout with me when I need a fire! I don't even understand how wood can burn at -40 degrees!

I will add that winter camping can mean a lot of different things depending on your area. I "winter" camped this weekend here in Tn. Last late summer I "Tennessee winter camped" in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Its all relative.
Camping in deep snow is a separate animal from the rest of the year.
I'm doing a little out and back on the AT the 20-22nd. I really hope it's cold. Farmers almanac says snow flurries that weekend for the northeast. Not really cold enough for a 0° TQ, but it'll be the first "real" chance to use it so I'm taking it anyway.
I envy those of you that live where you regularly see zero and below. I have to travel for that. It rarely gets to zero in my immediate area.
