Moose river is a drive in area just outside of the town of Indian lake. Stocked streams run throughout, and it should be pretty easy to set up. I've been hanging a hammock there for close to 15 years.

Here you can see the storm that was moving in that swamped my tent. Haven't been in a tent since.

I'm up for The Moose anytime but March 14-21. Wide open for Feb.

    Very nice!

If I'm reading right you can't reserve sites at Moose River.

No reservations possible. First come. The cedar river rd is partially seasonal. With the snow, it probably wont be open for a while, almost certainly not in Feb.

I'm not a winter guy, so that fine with me!

How can we count on a site? I'd hate for people to take time off/drive a ways and then not have a site.

I spent 3 days mid September and a week at the end of Seeptember 2014 in the Moose River Plains . From my teenage years through my 20eys I loved the area . Camping and fishing and hiking and hunting, it was a great place . What I experienced in 2014 was very sad . I can not speak for the Ceader River Flow ,but what I experienced in the area of the plains was , garbage , loud drunks , shooting of fire arms all day and most of the night , fire works and in general out of control behavior . It hearts me deepley , but I fear that Moose River Plains has become a place where people with no respect or understanding of the wild come to do all the things they are not allowed to do in state or private camp grounds . I would not like others to get the ideal that is what our beloved Adirondacks is . I would love to see a get together but not in the Moose .

May life's simplest things bring you the greatest pleasures !!!

It is a shame they let that go on. But try to ride a motorcycle in and they will only take 2 minutes to tell you to leave.

Hey if you could get something going on in that area. With enough notice. I would be interested.
    Straight out of Clayton.

Most physical hike: Grandfather Mountain, NC. Aug 13.

I don't need to make my pack lighter. I need to make my (_*_) lighter.

Moose river doesn't officially open till after Memorial Day Weekend.. You may find the gates open before then.. but more likely than not, you may be walking in from the Cedar River Flow,.. or worse yet, from the snow plow turn around 2 miles back. I avoid Moose River at all costs the weekends of Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day... and from Mid Sept till about now)

To Ringfly... because Mid-Late September is Hunting Season in the dacks (well, the start of it). It's like going into the Catskills in the Middle of July.. Roads lined with cars, and every creek and stream packed with swimmers... People have no respect

I propose a small hang.. we can give it a try. Keeping the "After Memorial Day" thing in mind, what about the weekend of June 5-8? Give us a few months worth of planning.. and maybe the chance to get in there and narrow down the area for a spot. That, and early June is about perfect in the trout streams up there.

It'll also give us a chance to scope out other suggestions for areas. But as said earlier.. there's not much chance of finding a public or Private camoground that will accommodate that many hammocks.. and a back country permit for an outing like this is a stretch..

How cool would it be to snag one of the islands at Follensby Clear Pond!
