    Thinking about a BlackBird

I am really close to buying a Blackbird. What are some reasons that people get the 1.7 versus 1.1. I am 230 so should I go with the 1.7? Also I am wanting to get the double layer for summer camping so I didn't have to take my Underquilt with me? Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated

    Thanks

I emailed Brandon (warbonnet) and asked about what would be best for my particular build. I suggest you shoot him an email to see what would be more comfortable.

You did not say how tall you were. I am 5'8 and prefer the 11' XLC over the 10' BB.
Also a doubler layer hammock is no warmer than a SL. I would get the 1.7 SL XLC.

Here's a pict of one with the optional top cover.

Bobom15, Next weekend is the Frozen Butt Hang for the Palmetto State Hangers. The hang is at Sesquicentenial state park. I encourage you to attend and you will be able to see pretty much any hammock you want to see. I will personally have both a blackbird and a XLC there. If you havent heard about this event check it out here..https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...al-Frozen-Butt

    ps..I have both a 1.7dl blackbird and a 1.7 dl xlc

There's a nice section on the Warbonnet website that can help you choose.

    http://www.warbonnetoutdoors.com/www.../hammocks-101/

Subjectively, I like the color and the feel of the 1.1 better. It's almost like silk. The 1.7 is "crispy", almost like something you'd find on a kids school backpack. I'm not saying it's bad or a reason to reconsider, just an observation. I was surprised by the difference between the two. But I'm really liking my 1.7 SL Traveler!

I certainly don't want to highjack this thread since I'm new and all, but I'm also new to this hammock thing and especially hammock materials and manufacturing techniques. My biggest questions so far are: 1) What does the 1.1 and 1.7 mean? I'm assuming it's material weight with 1.7 maybe more heavy duty. 2) What does it mean when it says double layer? I get that it actually means two layers of fabric, but what is the advantage?

Again, sorry to post these questions in someone else's thread, but I'm sure these questions get asked a lot and we probably dont need a whole new thread. My search function skills suck and I've had no luck finding these answers.
