    New Guy

Greetings all and thank you for this forum. I've never seen so much helpful information all in one place. I'm just getting started. I bought an el cheapo hammock from a local retailer and am setting some eye bolts in my shed to set up. I figure on buying a "real" setup soon but wanted to play with a cheap one first while researching the larger investment. I'm 45 and sleeping on the ground has become a bit unbearable, the result being much less time spent in the outdoors. I look forward taking this next step and I thank all of you for the wealth of information you have so generously provided in this forum. I had some questions but, so far, every one has already been covered thoroughly in this forum so I suppose I am only asking for any general advice you can offer for a new guy. Thank you again and I look forward to this new adventure.

Welcome! As you noticed, many if not all of your questions have answers in the forums, but there are lots of awesome people here who have great information and are willing to share. There are a lot of hangers in NC. Gunner76 offers free classes on hammock hanging. You should do a search for him on HF. I think he has a link to another site in his signature where he mentions classes. He also coordinates several hangs per year. Check out any posts from Shug who has a youtube channel as well. Most of us are growing up under Shug's direction...

Welcome to the addiction. Even a cheaper starter setup is better than the ground IMO. Some never find the need to spend big money on the hammock portion, and use their funds on quality down quilts, just like those on the ground.

Welcome to the forum, McAlister. It's a great idea to start with a simpler hammock and upgrade at a later date. It's the same way I started out and I learnt a lot from that approach. I hope your journey as a hanger is a good one. Greetings from the snowy Austrian Alps

Welcome to the forums. I believe that Wilderness Logics, a hammock, tarp & quilt cottage vendor is located there in Thomasville, NC and I think he may even have a showroom that you could visit to see and touch things.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!
