    Help for Permanent Hanging

I have recently moved to sleeping full time in my hammock due to chronic neck and back problems. I'm curious what others have found helpful for them...

    I have two issues.
First is neck/head support. .. if my neck is not in the right position I have terrible migraines and neck pain. Can anyone relate? And what have you found helpful?

Second, I am 6' tall, my hammock is 10' long and 5' wide (supposedly). I still can't get a flat position and I'm getting leg cramp because I think I'm sleeping with a stiff leg. Do I need a longer hammock?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I don't get the migraines but I have to have some kneck support. It's why I came up with the original hammock pillows. It depends on the hammock which kind of pillow I pick. Some hammocks I just need some kneck support other hammocks I like a little bigger pillow. Some folks use one of those travel kneck pillows...the jumbo C shaped ones that hold your kneck steady.

Longer hammock and and or totally different type. A bridge hammock might be an option to consider. Much foster and no leg hyper extension to deal with.

I have a giant 156" X 90" Tablecloth hammock. Plenty sag and plenty room.

I use a thin pillow under my head and another thin pillow under my legs(from knees down). And I use a Arrowhead full length New River UQ to keep my butt warm.

I like to use a rolled up towel or blanket as a neck pillow at home. That way you can always re-roll to get a thicker or thinner pillow. Also, if you are a back sleeper, you can fold the two sides of the towel in toward the middle, but not quite all the way to the middle, then roll the towel and rubber band the ends(or use hair ties because they are soft on the outside) to keep the towel rolled. This creates a thinner spot in the middle of the roll that can be lined up with your spine in your neck. This video shows a good way to do it.

Have you tried a few different hammocks and sizes? If not look at trying an 11 foot. you can get one from Dutch for $35 and if you don't like it sell it on here for about the same price. http://dutchwaregear.com/nylond-hammock.html

Where did you get the tablecloth from? Can you provide a link. I have been thinking of getting a wider hammock. That sounds like what I may need.

Tablecloth Factory just choose your color.

I took a 18" ziptie and used that to gather the ends by running through the hem, tighten as much as possible and cutting excess off. Then just larksheaded some amsteel dogbones on the end. Really simple.

Check out the "Pares" hammock from Sierra Madre Reasearch. It is the widest hammock I've been able to find and for ME, that was the key ingredient.

I'm 6'1" 225 and own several different 11' hammocks and the "pares" is a good 12 inches wider than any of them.

I'm HAPPY to backpack with a few more oz to get a great nights sleep.
Train up a child in the way he/she should hang,
And when they are old they will not become ground dwellers.
