What would you use a failed tarp for?

When I made my tarp I got the lightest waterproof ripstop textile I could find. Roll hemmed it and added loops. I guess it's the wrong kind of fabric, because it seems too soft no matter how I try to tighten it, and flaps so much that it really disturbs my sleep.

So. What else could I create from the material? Something that's actually useful. I can only think of making a kind of bag, that would be super light and waterproof, but I have never needed that so far.

I could also create a huge water balloon and throw from a high building.

Stuff sacks, snakeskins, a poncho or rain skirt...

Maybe you could first try to salvage what you have. If the tarp is rectangular, you might consider cutting and hemming catenary arcs between the tie outs. It should then pitch much tighter. Or you could try a modification I've been experimenting with here.

You could add an extra tie out on the walls of the tarp as well to help pull it out. Gives more space inside the tarp and stops the flapping. I added two to each side on my DIY. Just add a reinforcement patch and seam seal.

I keep a rag bag just for this purpose. Bad fabrics cuts, largish scraps and failed experiments all go in it.

Ex: I just re-purposed part of a test speer-type hammock that was the wrong kind of fabric into a test prototype of a bishop bag. This lets me play around with designs without worrying about wasting material.

The rest of it is scheduled for zipper practice and some small, tyvek lined stake holders, stuff sacks, reinforcement material, etc, etc,......
