    Input on Underquilt

I have a Hennesy explorer ultralite and am looking to add a 3 seaon underquilt without blowing the budget. Two questions.
1.Thoughts on Hammock Gear underquilts in general?
    2. In 30-40 degree weather is there that big of a difference between a full length and a 3/4 length

notes: im about 6'1" and sleep fairly warm, I also plan on ditching my sleeping bag for an overquilt in the near furture. My primary use is portaging and over night camping in the canadian shield. I'm fairly weight contious with my base weight being around 12lbs or less.

My opinion is full length. You can always loosen the suspension or cord locks for improved ventilation.

I have no experience with HG but their products look nice. Seem to be well regarded.

HG is one of many excellent vendors here that offer great products and services. If you get cold feet I'd go with a full length.

If you ever want to meet some other Ontario hangers there is an active group that gets together for trips throughout the year. We have an upcoming snow shoe trip if you are interested. Check out the EGL trip planning thread. You're welcome to join us anytime.

I like HG gear. I own three UQs and three TQs from them, plus an HG Winter Palace cuben fiber tarp, some CF stuffsacks and tarp skins.

My first quilt set was a 20* Burrow and Phoenix. I thought it would be the only quilt set I'd need, and it was, until I expanded my temperature range (now have 40* and 0* quilt sets too). I'm neither a hot nor cold sleeper, but the 3/4 Phoenix was fine for me, with a pad in the footbox. A full-length quilt is definitely advisable for folks who get cold feet.

I have a couple of HG Incubator underquilts and I have been very happy with them so far. HG full-length underquilts have a very unique cut - some people like it, others don't. In my opinion the cut makes the underquilts lighter by putting the insulation where you need it most, and also makes them fit a bit better. I love the secondary suspension, too. On uqs without secondary suspension I had trouble with air gaps.

It's a matter of taste. I don't like fiddling with pads, and I'd have to change my style of sleeping. A full-length underquilt requires no further fiddling once it's set up correctly. If you are very weight conscious, carry a sit pad anyways and don't move around a lot in your sleep, a 3/4 uq is the way to go.

I started off with a Yeti, Jar bridge & Flamethrower (all 2/3 length or so). I could never get quite as confortable as my HG Incubator. I started with a 0* Incubator and have purchased six or seven more with various fills.

Not sure about the Hennessy. Does it have a side zip or the dreaded pod opening? As far as I know, the JRB UQ is the only one designed for the pod opening.
