After hanging in my Hennessy Deluxe Explorer Asym Zip for over 5 years I was seeking a much lighter and more comfortable rig that catered more to a tropical environment. After much research I decided on purchasing the WBBB 1.1 Double layer and I could not be happier. I am 6'0"\180cm and 196lbs\89kg with most of my hammocking done on UL hikes in tropical rainforests. I chose this model for the following reasons: 1. - It is lighter than the HH, 27.4oz\0.777kg vs 38.48oz\1.091 (hammock only) 2. - The Double Layer stops mozzies biting my butt in a hot, no pad needed situation and it allows for a lightweight pad to be inserted to keep me from freezing my butt off at 4am in milder conditions. Too warm here for an UQ. 3. - A more comfortable lay due to the footbox, also no need for a pillow anymore due to the great hang, another weight saver. 4. - The shelf alleviates the need for a ridgeline organiser and holds more, i.e. shoes, headlamp, water bottle, spare clothes, TQ. 5. -Fantastic suspension system, I chose the webbing and buckles because they are light, versatile and easy to use, no more knots and separate straps.
Suggested simple mods - I added bright cordage to the zipper pulls for ease of use and ease of finding them in low light conditions. I also added a small tritium zipper pull to the inside zipper for quick exit in the dark. I marked the right (headend) of the bishop bag (stuff sack) drawstring with a piece of red electrical tape to help me identify which way to hang my hammock. No other mods needed. I am just waiting on my Edge tarp to arrive that will replace my heavy HH Hex Tarp. All in all this rig has saved me over 25oz\700gm in pack weight and delivered more comfort and convenience than the HH.
