    Other uses for Amsteel

I'm looking for additional uses for Amsteel. I ordered 75 feet and so far made 3 Whoopie Slings (2 suspension, 1 ridgeline) and an 8 inch continuous loop pretty much for the heck of it as I have no use for it right now.

I still have about 20 feet of Amsteel. I am new to the hobby but enjoy working with the cordage. What other applications can I use that would be practical for hammocking and backpacking?

    TIA

I made a couple soft shackles which can essentially replace carabiners.

Soft shackles, soft shackle prusiks, dogbones, and continuous loops.

I echo all of the above. Not only are they lightweight and useful, they are fun to make.

    Other uses for Amsteel

I replaced my hiking pole straps with Amsteel. I find the straps annoying and hope the smaller Amsteel will be less intrusive.

I agree, soft shackles and dogbones have a lot of uses, are really leightweight and are fun to make. The soft shackle stopper knot was a little tricky for me to get the hang of but that's part of the fun. I use dogbones to extend my suspension, tarp ridgeline or guy outs as needed.

Other than hammock suspension, I pulled a feller's car out of the mud the other day with a couple of whoopies I had with me.
Also used it to make crappie jigs.
A 4 or 5 inch length is a good Alligator gar lure ... better than the old nylon rope lure ( more bouyant and tougher )
However..... never hurts to have extra cordage in the woods..... never know when you'll need it.

I spliced it on the loop of a USB drive I keep on my keychain, because the tiny cord that came with it got stuck in the biner gate.

Make a detachable SRL using soft shackle techniques. It's nice to detach the ridgeline when using the hammock to sit in because I find it is always in the way of my head.

The drawstring on the top of my pack is amsteel and I've heard of folks using it for boot laces.
