Eh, not really. Just chose your campsite based off of the trees and you're generally good to go. Also, having a nice big circumference makes for doing it a lot easier.

My current thinking is to hang the two hammocks from the same two trees and improvise a spreader bar at the head end from a stick. (I'm too cheap to buy any gizmos and I don't want to carry extra weight).

Can't seem to find anything written on this kind of set up on the forum so does anyone have any experience to share?
Hi Moel, This sounds like a fun trip. I think the type of forest you camp in is really going to determine how well this works.
Do you know the area you will be camping in? Does it have large old growth trees?
Having a couple setup options might help. I sometimes have trouble finding just to perfect trees where I hang.

    Hi O&B

We're heading to Sweden for this trip. There are trees aplenty. Not too many really fat ones but with so many to choose from we should find something suitable.

The area looks like this. (not my video)

I have done this a bunch of times with my wife and with my daughter. Just used stoutish sticks as spreaders, no issues. You do feel if they really flopp but have always slept just fine.

All i did was carve a slight indent in the wood and larkshead some light line around it the tie off to the suspension. Any pressure on the wood is compression so no worries. Worst that can happen is it breaks and you bump together.

    Great. Thanks for your reply.

That's just what I was thinking of doing but I was surprised not to find it discussed here already.

I just tried out this method using just one hiking pole at the head end of the two hammocks. It was a great success and surprising how short you can go with the pole.

I only extended the fatter sections of the pole and inserted the point and handle into each of the continuous loops on the hammocks.

I'll definitely use this method when I go hiking with my wife.

Is that a practical way to do it? The idea makes me a little nervous.

So would you do it that way if you didn't have to? I'm planning a week long trip with my wife and it will be her first time sleeping in a hammock so I'm looking for a practical method that she will like. (Unbelievably she still likes sleeping near me, even after all these years!)
