I've had some poor nights of sleep in my hammock too but I found for me the secret is putting a stuff sack or something under my knees and then kind of turning a bit on my side. This does the trick for me and I sleep good this way.

I like lay my head on a small camp pillow which rests on my arm/shoulder, with my arm stretched out. but my arm just can't get it quite right. I am determined to get this down. besides a flask of single malt just might be the ticket.
This may sound weird, but everything is worth a shot. If you happen sleep on your left side then try positioning yourself such that your upper body is in the footbox end of your WBBB. That should give you some extra room for your arm and shoulder.

Another thought is how you hang the hammock. When you hang a hammock level your torso slides down to the lowest point pushing the feet up into the folds. This would give you the most arm room, but not to comfortable IMO. When the hammock is hung with the feet higher you sleep higher up. What I mean is try hanging at different levels.
