I just finished a UQ for The Terminators Ridge Runner with two layers of 5.0 Apex Clamashield. Have to wait for another cold spell so she can give it a good test. Those two layers of 5.0 was a PITA to sew.

I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
Can you let us know how well this material packs down? Do you fold it? I'm just guessing that it doesn't really "stuff" well. I may be wrong though. Thanks!
With mine I've tried both stuffing and rolling. It stuffs good but I Prefer the rolling so as not to be too hard on the fill. But sometimes ya just have to stuff it. It is lighter than I thought it would be
it actually stuffs down pretty well. its not quite as compressable as down but it gets down pretty small. i have a thread on my DIY single layer 5.0 quilt and i have all the build pics and a pic of it in a compression sack next to a colman propane bottle(the small green ones you get at walmart).
For either of you: what did it end up running for cost?
total cost of build
all ordered from ripstop by the roll
2yds 1.1oz ripstop $8.50
2yds 1.7oz ripstop (atacs FG) $7.50
2yds 5.0 climashield apex 32.40
flat rate shipping $10.50
Total cost $58.90
experience of making it yourself priceless
I had some of the materials on hand for this project already so my actual cost was a little less (could also be a little more depending on the materials you choose for the build). I did learn a few things working with apex and made a full thread on it with pics of the process. it was fun and with what I learned building the UQ I will be trying a TQ build in the future.
I am in the middle of planning the materials for this!
For a climashield 5oz (1.5" loft according to ripstopbytheroll) full length quilt; 72*46, what sort of differentials would I be looking at? I'm planning to follow this: http://diygearsupply.com/diy-guides/insulation/
My main question is that I have heard from people that I should use 2*thickness_of_climashield as my "v" cuts width wise. https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...l%20calculator Shows that this is not correct?
Finally do I put in longitudinal differentials?
It looks like a great underquilt! I'm just hoping mine will come out ok
I used a 3in dart that went in 12in on the head and foot end on the outside material only. I didnt dart the interior or the apex itself. I believe the 3rd page of this thread has a link to the thread of my UQ build. Alot of pics of the process and how i went about it.
