    Forgot to mention earlier...

I have official "SoCal Hangers" embroidered patches that I will have available for sale.

They are about 2"x4" and have the same image as my profile pic except with a gold border so it matches other California State Flag patches.

    $5 each

    PLEASE READ BEFORE HEADING UP

    Hey Guys!

That moment we have all been waiting for is nearly here!

I’m so excited that the annual SoCal hang is gaining momentum. We’ve had a lot of fun over the last couple years and we should all look forward to further adventures.

Just a few notes before you head up… I know a lot of this is repeated information but I have heard in the past a recap email is handy.

    FEES/SALES

Please make sure to bring your fees in cash and give them to Pedro. He was nice enough to front the cash needed in order to put in the reservation on the space so let’s be diligent in getting him paid back.

Cost is $20 per adult and $10 per person 17 and under. The cost is the same whether you stay one night or all three.

Any overage will go towards reserving the site(s) for next year.

I will have SoCal Hanger Patches for sale at $5 each. Bring cash if you want one/some.

    CAMP SITES

Our base of operations will be The Lupine Site at the Falcon Group Campground in the Cleveland National Forest. There are eight parking spaces at Lupine.

The site next to Lupine (Sage) is open for walk-in on Friday. Pedro is going to speak with the Ranger when he arrives on Thursday about reserving that site as well for Friday night. This way we will six spaces of additional parking on Friday night for late arrivals. We need to clear out of the second site on Saturday morning. But it will make it much easier to arrange for the rest of the trip. If you are only staying for Friday night (like I am) please set up your rigs at The Sage site in order to give as many trees as possible to those staying the whole weekend at The Lupine site.

If you have a wilderness pass, bring it. It will allow you to park outside of the gates if (when) the parking spaces are full). Again, I would recommend that some of us volunteer to pick one up at Kathy’s Korner on The Ortega Highway just West of The Fire Station. There’s a big sign and you can’t miss it.

Pedro Torres will be arriving on Thursday and will be there when the gates open at 2PM. If he, for some reason, can’t make it please tell the Ranger the site is under his name.

There are a lot of trees in the area but if we run short we can use the adjacent Blue Jay Campground for overflow. Trees at the group site are first-come, first-served.

    POT-LUCK FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

We’ll be having pot-luck style dinner on both Friday and Saturday night. When I get there Friday morning I will set out a sign-up sheet to mark down which night you will be providing your dish. That way we can make adjustments if needed so we don’t end up with all desserts on Saturday. I’m going to bring my infamous “Whoopie Chili”.

    WHAT TO BRING

Drinking Water (The signs say it is potable but I’ve gotten sick from drinking it before)
    Firewood
Toilet Paper (The stuff the Forest Service provides was designed for Gitmo)
Camping Gear you’d like to show off
Items for any clinics/demos that we’d like to see
Any outdoor games that might be fun. Horseshoes, corn hole, ladder ball, etc…
Obvious items like bourbon, food, bourbon, clothes, bourbon, beer, bourbon, etc…

    WEATHER

I was there last weekend and the temperature was nice during the day (Mid 70s) and got a little chilly at night (High 40s, Mid 50s). There is likely to be some wind so be prepared.

    CELL SERVICE

The service is basically non-existent up there if you have Sprint. I have heard that there is some coverage with Verizon.
There is also a spot at the end of Blue Jay campground next door that has cell reception (there is a sign). I would not count on having service when you are up there unless you go to that spot.

    DIRECTIONS

    From the 15 (East Side):

Take Exit 77 to get on to Highway 74
    Head West (Towards the lake)
    Right on Collier (light)
    Left on Riverside Dr (light)
    Pass the lake
Riverside Drive curves to the left and becomes Grand
Turn Right on Ortega Highway 74 up the mountain
Go up the hill to just a mile or two past the crest
Get off the highway by making a right at No. Main Divide road
No. Main Divide road is just before a campground on the right
Take the paved road in the middle (DO NOT GO TO THE SITE RIGHT BY THE HIGHWAY)
YOU WILL BE ON THIS ROAD FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES AND LIKELY FEEL LIKE YOU'VE GONE TOO FAR.
    STICK WITH IT.
Look for potholes and narrow roads.
Follow Signs to Falcon Group Campsite
Lupine is the second site on the right once you enter

    From the 5 (West Side):

Take Exit 82 to get on to Highway 74
Head East (Into the Mountains) for about 23 miles
Make a left on to No. Main Divide road just after the fire station (on the right)
No. Main Divide road is just after a campground on the left

    ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS

If you can’t post your question here or are not getting a response posted within 6 hours feel free to call me on my cell phone at 310/927-0628. I will be heading up Friday morning and likely will not have service past 9 or 10 in the morning.

NOW LET'S GET OUR BUTTS OUT THERE AND HAVE A GREAT TIME!

PS: A word to the wise... if you are describing the event to your spouse as you are leaving, it's probably best not to say "I'm going swinging with a bunch of strangers"

Pedro just called me from the cell area at the campground.

He's there waiting for the ranger to open up the place.

If you get there early, you can find him either at the gate to Falcon or the cell area at the back end of Blue Jay.

I still have my mate and his fiancé coming up with me tomorrow as well! Should be a grand time!
I may be dumb, but at least I'm ugly!

I've done so much, with so little, for so long, now I can do anything with nothing.
