    Do not hang from the pillar supports, use a stand or reinforce to spread the load.

    Probably will just stick with using the turtle dog stand that I have made. Really no easy way to safely hang from The porch without screwing in hardware.

    Depends, if they're square pillars then they'll have a 4x4, 4x6 or even 6x6 if it's a big porch. The decorative pillars will have the same but like said dead space between the post and outside cover.
