    Whoopie Alternatives

These suggestions are all ones I'd like to try out. I especially like the slippery sheet bend. I'm already thinking of getting some amsteel and doing a fixed eye on one end, with a locked brummel on the other to use for this technique. The slippery sheet bend should act as the drip guard too I imagine.

Is there any reason the slippery sheetbend wouldn't work using amsteel?

I use it with webbing and amsteel loops. It is the best suspension system I've ever used and actually lighter and cheaper and more reliable and more adjustable.....

I believe so. I think the only thing to avoid is amsteel to amsteel or dyneema to dyneema. They are too slippery.

I find webbing to amsteel is totally secure but whatever you choose be sure to test it before you rely on it.

You could try the Hammock Anchors at BIAS for close hang points if you have some loops.

But no hardware is needed if you have loops. I find tieing a slippery sheet bend even easier than speed hooks. (which I understand use the same idea as Hammock Anchors)

I missed the speedhooks so I have been wanting to achieve something using a marlinspike hitch and toggle. You can use a tree strap with a line of amsteel coming off which saves bulk and I find it easier to tie/untie than a slippery sheetbend/bowline. I will use amsteel continuous loops off the ends of my hammock. I have been playing with my suspension so paracord whipping is substituting its use in the pics.

Line passes through continuous loop (use amsteel!) which provides quick adjustability.

then align the working and standing ends of the line and put a MSH beyond the continous loop. If you keep it under the tarp it might also divert water from the lines.

If you must attach very close to the tree or at the very end of your line just use the MSH as you normally would and hang the continuous loop over the knot (not the toggle) like you would the whoopie sling.
I am hoping to test this suspension this weekend so I will report back with info asap. This utilizes no new methods to hammock forums but I searched and couldn't find anyone using these methods in this particular way. Hopefully that's not because it has been known to not work for a long time.
