I'm currently an unversed hanger. I have been lookin at hiking and hammock resources, and information, including studying bushcraft sites and YouTube vids, for several years.

I caught the camping bug several years ago, while car camping with my son and his scout troop. It reminded me of times long ago when I was in scouting.

Unfortunately my son is too old for scouting now. So the 14 x 8 Coleman tent is just a bit large for me to go hiking and primitive camping that I want to do locally. And now I need to lighten my load, so that I'm able to go solo hiking.

Hopefully I will be able to purchase the items, in the near future, that I will need, so that I can head into the woods when the feeling strikes me.

Welcome aboard from Lakeland. There are quite a few hangers up in your area and more joining in. Check out the trip planning forum for the southeast and join them for a hang. That's what I did in '11 with people I had never met before and now they are closer than some of my blood relatives.

There's Dutchwaregear, where you can get an Argon hammock, suspension system, and bugnet that will only weigh a little over 20 ounces.

There's Hammeck with again several options including almost any type of fabric you can think of.
Warbonnet Outdoors has some of the most popular hammocks out there, both gathered end and bridge hammocks(slightly heavier, but oh so comfortable).
