Hello and welcome from middle Tennessee! I was just up your way last summer, hiking the AT from NJ to Bear Mtn SP/Hudson River. Am returning in June to finish off NY and get into CT. I hung the whole way. You can find trees to hang from at just about any AT shelter.

Give a shout if you'd like to hike with us a bit.

Welcome Becks from East Tennessee (formerly NJ)! You will continue to find a plethora of information here. Check out Shug's videos on YouTube ad well. If you ever go across the river, there are plenty of places to hike in Jersey.

As far as hammocks go, I started out just recently with an ENO reactor hammock and thus far I really like it. I am eager to go to a group hang and check out what others have just to compare. If work allows you to, that may be an option at least to see whats out there and get some in person testimonials, although you will also find PLENTY of great reviews here too. I made my own UQ and also looking to DIY a tarp soon. I bought my ENO for $94 but you can start out cheaper if need be. The reactor has a slot just for an underpad which helps tremendously with keeping you warm. Thats why I went with it opposed to the doublenest.

I've heard a lot of good things about the warbonnet from Shug and others as well.

Let us know how it goes either way!

    Wow,

Thank you all so much for the warm welcome, the gear suggestions and the hiking/hanging spots. I'm originally from Seattle (birth place) and really look forward to learning the Northeast spots. Still getting used to (is that possible) these arctic temps in NY. And I'm not even north of Westchester County, NY.

    Kind Regards,

    Becks
