    Old Jungle hammock revived

I managed to finally bring my 10+ year old jungle hammock back to life. It's not completely set up, but due to a lack of trees (plus it's really cold right now) in the yard, I improvised in the basement for testing purposes. When I got it, I seem to recall it was rated for 200#, so I'm happy that it supports my weight of 225 after being in storage for over a decade. now that I proved it will hold up to the weight of my son and more, I can focus on getting an updated hammock for myself.

I guess I should have shown how I attached the suspension to the hammock since I previously asked for advice on how to in one of my first posts. After some digging and pondering, I decided some #36 bank line might work, and due to it's high strength, light weight and affordability I gave it a whirl. I used double fisherman's knots to complete the suspension, and it holds up all 225# of me. My son slept in it the other night with no problems and if by chance something fails in the field, I will have plenty more bank line on hand for repairs.

And then several days later while feeding my new addiction, I found this. Now I have no choice but to get that book!

I had an old school jungle hammock. not sure what brand. It was canvas on the bottom and nylon on the top. Mosquito netting in between. Leaked like crazy and I got soaked when it rained. It looked like on of the Texsport ones I've seen on Amazon.

I got mine from Gander Mountain (a MN based company basically trying to compete with Cabelas) for about $60 -$70 and I was pretty happy with it until the suspension/attachment failed and I had to improvise and set it up on the ground during a river camping trip. Normally I try not to be a pack rat, but in this case, I'm glad I didn't throw it out.
