Nine lashes on 9/9/09!
Confusion is how you know your a hanger. Once you get everything figured out, somebody will come along with something to make your head hurt again. It's all part of the fun.
Trust nobody!
You say there are 2 shock cords that came with it? Are those not the JRB suspension cords? Did it have 2 tiny biners with it? But if not the JRB stuff, any shock cords you rig up should do the job, with mini-biners from WM. Just make sure you have enough slack so that once you get in you are not compressing the loft, while at the same time not so loose as to have a gap under your back. A 2nd person out side the HH can be a big help during initial set up. Once you get it right, just leave it on there.

Thats the way I see it. BB58's link or the one I posted shows how to set up the shock cord, prussic style. Click on the JRB Suspension in my post and they show a HH rigged up. Sounds to me, Rug, like you already have everything you need. Just gotta play with it to get it set right for you, good luck.
Ambulo tua ambulo.
Rug,
Have a look at the instructions here:

The top half of the page describes attaching a quilt to the Bear Mountain Bridge Hammock. Look at the second half of the page.
Regards,
Sounds like you've tried to attach it perpendicular to the hammock!
