To be continuous or not to be... that is the question?

For your tarps do you use a continuous ridgeline that spans the entire length under your tarp tied to a tree on either end or do you use a single ridgeline at each end of your tarp? What are the benefits of both? Any help would be appreciated!

I use a continuous ridgeline because I like the ability to adjust the position of the tarp from one end, like urban clotheslines across a space between buildings.

I usually run my ridgeline over the tarp to prevent abrasion other tarp.

Ahhh running the tarp under the ridgeline does make more sense for wear. Thank you!

I have used both, and personally prefer the continuous ridge line. I use one on my Superfly that has a dutch hook on one end and a a tarp fly on the other. I find that I can set up more quickly and with a more taught ridge line through this method than when I was using separate guy lines on each end. I also like having the ability to move the tarp to any point on the ridge line without having to untie from any of the hardware.

I can't say one way is better than the other. I have done both and now go with separate tie outs on my Superfly. Get some Dutchware and experiment what works best for you.

have pretty much the same setup and the ability to just slide the tarp along the RL makes it so much easier to get the correct coverage over the hammock, granted I am a lazy man....

It's looking like continuous it is! It makes more sense to be able to slide the tarp back and forth with a few prussick knots and possibly Small Night Ize "S" biners. I just placed a good size order from Dutch for a setup for my girlfriend. Of all the things I am really looking forward to receiving the summer sock! Thanks guys!

I have used both and I vote for a line on each end - not continuous. The thing that got me was just having all that extra line to deal with when packing up. I now have stingers on each side and its just SO easy, plus I like having the ability to remove the lines and use on another tarp. You could remove the continuous one also, but again, just dealing with a lot of extra line.
