im with spaceman on that one. unless the selvage edge is really bad or a completely different color(you'll sometimes find that on your printed fabrics like camo's) I just leave it and make as small a rolled hem that I can. done this with 2 hammocks (a DL of 1.9oz ripstop and SL 1.9oz ripstop) and have yet to have an issue. if all else fails I always have a sewing kit in my pack for field expedient repairs.

I cut the selvage and did a 1/2" rolled hem. So I lost 2" of width on the fabric. Mostly wanted to play with the rotary cutter. New toys and all that. Tomorrow I'll get the ends cleaned up and work on suspension. Have some rope from Dutch to work on some whoopies and adjustable ridge line. Thanks for the input so far!

Glad to hear others chime in re selvage. I have always rolled it up in the hem as well. Never a problem so far. However, I so understand the new toys and all😁😁

I usually plan to have the finished hammock be 10' or 11' long. My channels are about 5cm (1.9") wide, so for a double layer 11' hammock I add 24cm (9.5"), for a single layer 11' hammock I add 13cm (5.2"). This works out close to the desired length the way I do my channels.

And I have started cutting the selvage with a hot knife because I'm OCD. I don't want my hems to be wider than 1cm (0.4"), but I also don't want any holes showing. I figured I'm saving a tiny bit of weight as well that way
