    new hanger

Hey guys new hanger here. I had a hammock back when I was a boy scout and loved it. Now some 15 years later I'm back in one. My wife bought me a Kalisto a couple weeks ago from wally-world for $10 I know it's nowhere near the best but I figure I'll give it a whirl till it breaks. I did buy some nylon this week and polyester thread to make a DIY tarp. Where can I find info on how to deternine different types and strengths of nylon.

Test that nylon to make sure that it is water-proof!!! I made my first tarp out of leaky nylon ..... it was good practice for the real thing though.

    What Shug said!
a first tarp is usually a Proof of concept exercise- to get familiar with the material/sewing machine/procedure. as your skills improve, you will want/need better quality material for specific purposes. But the first tarp (even if not perfect) will serve various uses, even if it is reduced to just being a sunshade later on.
the important thing is to get started!

The nylon I bought was in the "oops" bin at the fabric store. It's rip stop I think. It has the small grid pattern woven into it. I did the suck test on it and only got air around my goatee, and I put in in a cup and filled it w/ O2 no leaks or seaping. There's only 1 1/2 yards to practice with before I start a tarp. I thin I'll make a couple ditty bags. Ohh and the nylon is black and has a matte finish to one side of it. Sil or DWR?

Shug I've stalked you on youtube LOL.
