    neoprene for a mat

hello all, long time reader, first poster

I was wondering if neoprene would be a good alternative for a mat?

I think it would be easy to pack but I dont know about it's weight and isolation properties compared to ccf mats.

I'm looking around to make my henessy hyperlite winterproof (-15°C/5°F)

thanks in advance, great info around here

Neoprene is pretty heavy. Not the best material for a hammock pad. Check out the Gossamer Gear site. http://www.gossamergear.com/cgi-bin/...ad_matrix.htmlThey have a good selection for pads.

I wouldn't want to deal with the weight and absolute lack of compressibility. I carry neoprene gloves on trips that I expect it to be cold and wet; fantastic for those conditions. But, even just the gloves are heavy and I can't imagine what a pad sized chunk of it would weigh.

One more reason neoprene would not be the best solution is it is pretty expensive compared to warmer and lighter options.

Why do you see neoprene as being worse than any of the other closed cell foam pads? They all act as a vapor barrier.

I tried one once. Didn' like it. Too heavy, not comfortable and didn't pack well.
