    Overstock.com: cheap backyard hammock

    If you're looking for an inexpensive extra hammock, Overstock.com has this "Ultralight Travel Hammock" for $23:
    http://www.overstock.com/Sports-Toys...8/product.html

    Description:
    Travel hammock is perfect to take on camping trips and other excursions.
    Outdoor gear packs down to a mere 12 ounces and offers a comfortable, portable sleeping solution.
    Hammock comes with everything you need and sets up in less than a minute.

    This sounds a lot like that Parrot Bay cheapy that launched a big thread a couple months ago. I don't plan on buying one, but thought y'all might want to take a peek.

    In the suggestions off to the right of that hammock, I saw this one. There's a new one to me - the material is listed as cotton canvas, so I bet it's heavy.

    I saw that thing not too long ago when doing a general search. Here are the specs on it, but nobody (including the manufacturer) lists the total weight. The netting is cotton too! Who's gonna take this thing camping?

    The Texsport® Wilderness hammock gives you a comfortable place to relax with a heavy-duty cotton canvas bottom portion and "no-see-um" cotton mesh netting. There's a sturdy zipper closure and strong reinforcements at all stress points. The steel rings at both ends are tightly secured with heavy-duty parachute cord.

    Features

    * Size: 82 in x 28 in x 18 in
    * Weight Limit: 250 lbs
    * Top portion is fire-retardant nylon with heavy polyurethane coating
    * "No-see-um" cotton mesh netting
    * Bottom portion is heavy-duty cotton canvas
    * Sturdy zipper closure and strong reinforcements at all stress points
    * Steel rings at both ends tightly secured with heavy-duty parachute cord
    * Easily converts to a tent
    * Nylon carry/storage bag
    Trust nobody!

    Checked that out.

    A thought : as UQ
    As an under layer and holder for a down sleepingbag, making it an underquilt.

    Dimensions: 9ft 6in x 4ft 6in
    Materials: Polyester Taffeta 12 ounces
    $22.99

    ( we are in an experimental phase before figuring out our permanent gear. )

    I can imagine how it can work.

    Anyone have any thoughts.!

    At that price we thought maybe we should get one for our large dog
    who has been trying to get into our 'good' hammocks. "No boy, not with those toe nails".
    Something to think about.

    That's a Grand Trunk. Overstock is actually selling it for $1 more than GT does, so it's no deal.

    I bought one very similar to this 10 years ago. It was advertised as a jungle hammock from Sportsman Outdoors. It does have a canvas bottom and is heavy compared to the hammocks I have now, but you don't get the "cold butt syndrome" as much becuase of the canvas and I pretty much only used it in warm months. I'll sell it for cheap if anyone is interested. I am debating on "parting it out" for the zipper and bugnet.

    I bought one of the Grand Trunk / Travel Hammocks. Removed the hanging cord that was threaded thru the end hems and whipped the ends (with Cable Ties). Voila, a Speer type hammock! Added a ridgeline and WB straps, total weight 17.5 ounces.

    Good catch, Knotty. Mods- feel free to kill this thread and replace it with a plug for Grand Trunk!
