These were the best drunken dates ever. Plump and, with bacon not crispy, juicy.

Marty is right: Medjool dates (MD) are the best. I was given the leftover (imagine that!) Crown Maple so, when I saw MD at Costco, I bought them. Will take on my hammock tent camping trip to Long Pine Key (Everglades Nat Park) next week. (Plan to hang on Boonedox Drifter stand inside my 12x12' Eureka! Northern Breeze screen room with zippered walls.)

Here are the numbers for future ref.
2 lb box of Medjool dates $9 (worth the effort to pit with small knife)
2 lbs Kirkland (Costco) bacon $5.50 ($11 for pack of 4 lbs)

I cut the bacon slices in half. The few remaining bits of bacon probably match the number of dates I ate as they soaked (had to add rum to the whisky). So this amount would produce approx 55 large drunken dates. About 26 cents each. 3-5 per person???

Buying another 2lb box of dates and using all four packs of bacon would yield ab 110 dates - good for a larger crowd. Throw in a dollar for toothpicks and this can be rounded out to $30 PLUS the cost of the booze, of course.

PS. I later discovered that I had been given a small box of small dates. (I got lots of leftovers - even cheesy bacon grits) Will pick a recipe from one of my Middle Eastern/Morocco tagine recipe books. Think I saw one that uses dates and dried apricots.

I went to the men's section at Ross and got a pair like olddog's underwear!
Now I can hike comfortably in a kilt or skirt.

Retail on tag was $40; I paid $17. The turquoise color is much deeper than appears in the photo. Like "the dress" currently trending, light affects how the color is viewed

I musta been showing my arse! And I thought I was being very discreet in my kilt, especially with a lady present.

I would like to know the details of your (I think?) camo tarp It looks great.

Our hangs just keep growing into events. I was sorry to miss this one.
Thanks, I always have fun with the pics. I just need to start to shoot some video now.

Yes, the digital camo with the hiking poles on the RL for my panel pulls is my DIY tarp. What info are you looking for on the tarp that I can assist you with?

-Walmart fabric of unknown origin $1.50/yrd
    -DIY silicone caulking/mineral spirits coating
-Rectangle fabric fashioned into cat-cut hex with doors(retains the rectangle)
-60" top panel with 30" bottom side panels(eliminates Ridge Seam)
-3 buttons each side to close doors(buttons end at mid seam)
-Guylines are braided mason's line using prussic knot at all guyouts.

Let me know anything else you have questions on if I missed it and thanks for your interest.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

LOL. You were discreet - just the bottom of the shorts' legs were visible.

Yes I was happy that it happened that way. Got some things knocked off the honeydo list while it was raining!

Nice report. I learned a couple things. I did not know that Florida had scorpions. I guess that's another plus for hammocks in Florida. I'd like to know more about that cardboard and tinfoil oven though! That looks cool.
I can't wait to get away from all this snow just for a week. Ahhh yes a week of paddling with the gators and swinging from the trees. March 14th can't come soon enough.
