Down" Down" we all have Down"

But what is the right way to store down Quilts .
I keep my down bags in rubber maid tubs, that I have stored for years, but never had quilts(don't know if there is a diff)
I have now gotten off the ground and own 3 quilts that are down, what is the best way to store them.I do have plenty of room in a 4 car garage and it is heated and has air so they will stay above freezing and cool in summer.

First off, I want your garage! Second, there shouldn't be any difference between how you store a down sleeping bag and a down quilt. Just so the down isn't being compressed long term and it's not in a humid environment you should be good. The rubber maid tubs should work fine in your garage. I personally like to hang mine on hangers in the closet but then I don't have the kind of room in my garage that you do...

I too have them on hangers in my closet--keeps them full, at a stable temperature and humidity. I just stuff them to the back of my closet until I need them.

I thought the same thing about the garage when I was building it ,but now it is full of everything from quads to Quilts and more. I see on threads here that people hang them you all not concerned about the moths eating holes in them ? ?

Yes , that sounds ideal but no moths to worry about ? I do not notice any holes in my clothes ever but I always herd my grand and my mother saying don't leave anything of value if they could possibly get little holes eaten in them....?

I don't think moths eat syl-nylon or poly.

I've never had a problem with moths but I guess if I ever did I'd patch it with a dab of silicone or seam sealer and look at other storage options at that point. Until then I'll continue with my current method of storage and not worry about it.

I hang mine too now that I have my own dedicated gear closet. Before that I laid the TQ I had flat on a shelf in my closet folded.

The thing about hanging though is I don't like to hang them by the shock cord (on my UQ) for fear of stretching.

I store mine either laid out on a bed and or stored in large over sized laundry bags.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
