    Honeymoon in Crosby, TN

Hey guys! My soon to be wife and I will be heading to Crosby, TN for a total of four nights in a cabin in the Smokey Mountains! We will be taking our hiking gear and hammocks of course! There are about 800 miles of trails in that area! Can't wait to see some new terrain with the wife & enjoy the scenery!

From Cosby campground there is a neat hike to Mt. Cammerer with the trail head Low Gap Trail. If it is a clear day the view will be great.

BTW, as you look ahead,-- for our 30th Anniversary, my wife and I stayed at Standing Bear Farm just across I-40 in the cabin that literally straddles the branch, then section-hiked 30 miles (actually 32) on the AT to Hot Springs, NC. There we enjoyed one of the actual hot spring hot tubs and stayed at the fancy B&B.

This year is our 40th. We still talk about our 30th.

    Congratulations
you might want to check out the porter creek trail which will be just down the road from you in the Greenbrier section.
We hiked it one spring up to Fern Branch Falls and the wild flowers were amazing.

I second the Mt. Cammerer hike. There is a great stone fire lookout tower at the top with a glass enclosed room surrounded by a porch. Great place to hang out and eat lunch. Mt. Cammerer is a promintory peak and the ridgeline drops off to the North and East of the peak, so the views are pretty fantastic.

My favorite section of the AT through the park is the stretch from Mt. Cammerer to Tricorner Knob shelter. I love the high up spruce fir forests. The views on the AT are better over by Newfound Gap and Charlies Bunion, but I love smelling the evergreens on a ridgeline.

Another great hike out of the Cosby Campground is out to Hen Wallow Falls on Gabes Mtn Trail. It is only a couple miles to the falls, and they are quite nice. I was just out there a couple weeks ago, and the falls looked fantastic with all the ice formations.

If you head up to Newfound Gap, it's pretty popular to hike east from there on the AT out to Charlie's Bunion. This section of the park has a lot of exposed rock formations and some pretty wide open views.

If you go over to Clingman's Dome, you can take take Forney Ridge trail South from the parking lot out to Andrew's Bald. If it is a warm day, take a blanket and your lunch and enjoy the wide open views from this grassy bald. I think it is only like 1.2 miles from the parking lot to the bald.
