Big Bend Natl Park on March 6-8

Take some binoculars. Big bend is one of the few places in the states where you can get spectacular dark sky views. (Astronomy)

With binoculars you should be able to see all kinds of interesting things, and if you have the inclination to bring a decent scope 8" mirror and up, you can see galaxies all over the place. I've been wanting to get out there for a year now but it's a 10+ hour drive for me.

In good years South/Central Texas Bluebonnets cover everything. I hail from a little town an hour west of Houston and the bluebonnets are a yearly attraction for people all over the world. They have tour busses that stop on the side of the road so people can take pictures. It looks like a flower ocean.

Well, there is something to be said for going during MidTerm Exam Week, instead of Spring Break... perhaps March 6-8 would be best. That's the only other weekend that I can go.

Ok, let's change the date, for the higher probability of having the place to ourselves!

My local REI is having a Big Bend planning seminar on 13 January, 2010 (that's a Wednesday). I think I will try and make it to this, gather up some information and ask about hammock areas specifically. Anyone else interested?

Interesting, I might just have to make that. Plus the clearance sells start from the 8th - 18th I believe atleast thats what they have posted for the one in North Austin.

Hedcase, sounds like we need to rent a Club Van in Jackson. I'll pick up Skippy and Running Feather, and Angrysparrow can meet us there. How many others want to get on the bus between Jackson, MS, and Big Bend?

Mac, I got room for seven plus gear!! Honda Minivan! At present time it's got 3 carseats in it. I believe I can commandeer it from my wife for a weekend!! Just let me know what you guys need. All who need to be fed, need a shower, need a place to park, need just about anything, are welcome at my house!!!
