    Dry down or regular down?

Just curious if the dry down is worth it in a quilt. Does it really resist water better?

Yeah but no one's quite sure it'll last yet. Personally I don't get the point in a quilt makes more sense for clothing

It definitely does work. I agree with Scotty that it's properties are even more important in clothing, but also in thru hikes where you're using your quilt daily and don't have an opportunity to dry them. And yes, it's something new.

There was a neat read on one of the gear reviews that was looking at how comfortable the Dri-down was since it appeared the moisture passed through rather than being absorbed. It was in relation to a sleeping bag and a coat that got passed around that gear reviews office. I can't remember which place I read it since I was searching through a lot of them. They were favorites. It made me think that it could be beneficial in terms of relative humidity and perspiration. I just picked up a jacks quilt and chose the dri format. Guess time will see how long it works

I like the idea of dry down but remember someone posting about trying to wash a dry down product. As expected, the down would not 'wet out' and the product just floated on top of the water making it difficult to wash.

I bought a new model Marmot Hydrogen bag (30dF) with their version of hydrophobic down end of last year and I could not believe how well it breathed.

To be fair that bag is made of Pertex, but it was amazing especially when comparing sleeping in temps that were a tad on the high side for those bags like maybe 60 degrees or so.

The two I compared it to were a MYOG M50 2.5 apex climasheild quilt (50-55dF) and a Western Mountaineering summerlite (35dF). I really never expected that much of a difference, but I am sold.

    Treated Down.... washing and weights

    https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...-with-HyperDRY

The fact it does not hold much moisture equals a good thing if in the field something goes sideways...at least you know you can recover soaked treated down rather quickly.
