That is "Stickey" worthy!

I always like going SOBO; somehow, it feels like going downhill.
...and as it harm none, do what ye will.
Thanks guys, glad you like it.
There's more to come too.
It seems I didn't need 4 stands to accommodate 2 hammocks after all. (3 stands can hold 2 ridge poles). In fact 3 stands (with 3 ridge poles) MIGHT be able to accommodate 3 hammocks.
Since I made 4 stands, what will I do with the extra one? Stress test to find out how much weight the system can support. :-) More to come on that.
Also: Is anyone interested in a price / materials list?
ufdigga — I wondered the same thing too. gmcttr's right — TurtleLady's Bamboo stand, and the TurtleDog design get credit for that clever design.
darkknight0667 — The 8' ridge pole works for me b/c I prefer some sag in my hammock, so I can lay on the diagonal. It's just my comfort preference. I use ENO DoubleNests. Maybe other hammock designs are longer? An 8' ridgepole works for me.

Intent on learning how much weight these hammock stands can support, I bought 1000lbs of decomposed granite.
At the same time I wanted to try suspending two hammocks with three stands. if this works, Three hammocks might work on three bases.
The left side has two hammocks (Eno Doublenest and a cheap hammock under it). I hoped this would eliminate the Hammock as a failure point on that side.
The right side is an ENO Doublenest.
I added weight in 50lb increments.
After 1000lbs, I conducted a swing test. Rocking the hammocks side to side. The stands swayed rhythmically. The brackets allowed them to move organically. It looked incredibly flexible and strong.
Then I started shifting weight to the left hammock. I ended with 800lbs on the left and 200lbs on the right.
A few more swing tests.
Nothing cracked. Nothing broke. The left ridgepole bowed some, but it was already bowed when I bought it.
I'm going to leave it overnight and see what happens.
Here's how everything's attached. I used a Karash Double Loop, no problems.
If it doesn't break overnight. I'll buy some more granite this weekend and see what happens.
Really nice. Interested to see how much weight you can get in there before a failure.
What a great tutorial. I'm subscribing to this one because a need a hanging solution for our family's place up north. Any thought on using a metal fence post for the ridge pole for longer length?
Hi darkknight & MichiganDave,
You mentioned a longer Ridgepole.
I ran across a curious item at Home Depot. Interlocking 6' (or 7'?) poles near the cement mixing / spreading equipment. After shelling out $30, I took two home. Connected them, and made a couple prusik's on each end. Here's the result.
It worked fine for my 200 pounds. However I did not perform the weight test with this setup.
I am looking to come up with a portable option - what about making the tripods out of 3 48" 1 1/4 sch 40 PVC, each with a 42" 1" sch 40 PVC nested inside {fits like a glove} and then extending them and locking in place with a trailer coupler safety pin with say about 8" overlap for strength at the joint and then the ridge pole made up of 3 48" sch 40 1 1/4" with say 16" sch 40 1" pieces used to join them....I'm not an engineer but it seems that it would be pretty strong - your apparatus that holds the 2x2s would work for the pipe as well since they're made for fence post - it all breaks down to two 48" tripods, 3 48" poles, 3 42" poles - fits in trunk and easy enough to make a bag for it all if there isn't a surplus option already available - would be fairly light too - what do you guys think?
